Summary: A Gainesville, Florida attorney could not hold out a few more months for his suspension from the Florida Supreme Court to be lifted to start practicing law again.
A Gainesville attorney was already suspended from practicing law. He didn’t care and kept practicing law, which resulted in him being disbarred by the Florida Bar. Gabe Kaimowitz was suspended by the Florida Supreme Court in 2014 for accusing a judge of being corrupt, favoring certain parties, manipulating cases, and being anti-Semitic.
Kaimowitz made the inappropriate statements in pleadings, letters to newspapers and at a hearing. The Bar complaint states that Kaimowitz made the inappropriate statements fully aware that they were false or with complete disregard for the truth.
Kaimowitz filed a motion for a rehearing, claiming the Bar’s investigation relied on “legal fictions.” He was suspended for two years starting 30 days from Nov. 14, 2014. In September 2016, the Bar filed a complaint stating that Kaimowitz tried to file a pleading in U.S. District Court the month before.
In the pleading, he claimed that he was admitted to practice law and continued to “disparage judges and attorneys by making outrageous allegations that were not supported by evidence.” In July, he petitioned the Bar to place his status as “retired.” The Bar agreed but emphasized that “No matter how the respondent twists his status The Florida Bar has no authority to remove, lift or stay his suspension by the Florida Supreme Court.”
