Jared Fogle

Summary: Jared Fogle, Subways biggest success story since 2000, is being investigated by officials in what is assumed to be related to the arrest of his former employee.

Everyone knows Jared Fogle, the Indiana University freshman that weighed 425 pounds before starting an all-Subway diet of turkey and veggie sandwiches. Fogle has since been maintaining a weight of 190 pounds. After his roommate wrote an article on his success in their school paper, the restaurant signed him up as their spokesman, filming over 300 commercials, making public appearances, and speaking about the importance of healthy eating.

Fogle’s success allowed him to start a foundation called the Jared Foundation to raise awareness and correct childhood obesity. Unfortunately for the name of the foundation, the executive director Russell Taylor, was arrested on federal child pornography charges. Taylor is charged with one count of possession of child pornography and seven counts of the production of child pornography. He attempted to commit suicide while in prison but failed. He has been put on life support where his health has been improving.

Fogle and his foundation immediately cut all ties with Taylor after his arrest two months ago but that may not have been enough. Federal and state officials searched Fogle’s Indianapolis suburb home Tuesday. They have not said what the search is related to beyond it being part of a criminal investigation.

FBI, State Police, and Postal Service investigators arrived early and removed electronics taken from his home that were examined outside while Fogle was present. Fogle’s attorney, Ronald Elberger of Bose McKinney & Evans, has said that Fogle is cooperating with police but has not been charged with anything nor is aware of what the investigation pertains to.
