So I know re-capping my New Years is a couple days late at this point… But I haven’t had much time (or internet access!) while visiting my sorority sister in NC to blog, so I had already written my posts ahead of time.

So luck you, you get to re-live New Years Eve through me!

I woke up in the mountains! We had gone up to Amy Lee’s stepfather’s campground that he runs to stay at their cabin for the night. It’s right off Blue Ridge Parkway so the scenery is gorgeous, and the company was great!

I woke up a little before everyone, so I made myself some coffee and sat and read the book I’ve just started reading: Brave New World.

Most people read this in High School, but I never had! I heard someone talking about it, so I decided I needed to add it to my list!

Once everyone got up and had some breakfast, Amy Lee and I headed into Ashville to do some exploring! After checking out a few shops we stopped for coffee (and to use the bathroom…) at a coffee shop that I called ahead to make sure they had almond milk.

They had a lot of vegan options on their menu and a whole section of books, but it was definitely a little more alternative than what we were used to… Delicious coffee though!

After doing a bit more shopping (more like looking) we decided to go to Mellow Mushroom for lunch, since they had outdoor seating and it was GORGEOUS outside!

They also had gluten free pizza! I ordered a small greek salad and ate half the pizza then, and then the other half for dinner! It was pretty good!

After pizza, we walked around a bit more and then headed out. We stopped at a huge discount shoe store where Amy Lee found some shoes for work and I got a couple pairs of Wigwam socks to help me survive the Chicago winter!

Then it was time to get back to Morganton to get ready for our celebrations! We got back with just enough daylight left for a 3 mile run along the Greenway. It’s a gorgeous trail around Morganton and I could not stop talking about how beautiful and peaceful it was and how much I wished I had somewhere like this to run!

(Obligatory fake running pose… yes, I am crazy and Amy Lee is normal).

After our run we visited Amy Lee’s grandmother and headed home to get ready!

We met up with some of Amy Lee’s friends at a local bar and then ended up going to another bar. Guess what percentage of the bars in Morganton we visited? 66.67%. If you’re good at math, that means there are 3 bars in Morganton. The one we didn’t go to had a ghastly $5 cover charge.

We decided the bar was way too crowded, so we headed back to another girl’s house to pop our bottle of champagne and watch the ball drop! Where did we get this bottle, you ask? (okay you didn’t, but I’m going to tell you anyway). The owner of the first bar gave it to us as we were leaving! That is a small town in the south for you, everyone is so nice!

The best part of the evening? Discussing New Years Revolutions. In other words, the best part was replacing the word resolution with revolution as much as possible because we decided that’s a much better phrase!

I hope you all had a great New Year, and I’m looking forward to 2012 and all of my REVOLUTIONS!!!!
