LegalWeek reports that DLA Piper attorneys are angry that redundancy criteria include severe penalties for taking sick days.

Fee earners under consultation will be subject to six criteria… Categories, worth between 15-20 points, include: strength of relationship with clients, specialist skills, business development, cross-group work, attendance and disciplinary records.

The document has reportedly caused anger among staff, including most controversially the apparent intention to mark down staff for having been off work through illness.


The document suggests that staff under consultation will have points removed for taking sick leave in 2008 – as much five points for one day.

DLA Piper is in the middle of its second redundancy consultation since the economic meltdown began.
