Popularity is a lot like desirability. In order to be wanted by others, there must be something about us that is popular and in demand. Harrison Barnes teaches attorneys that in order to even get interviews, let alone job offers, from law firms they have to be highly desirable.

In a series of stories, Barnes explains how law firms only become interested in an attorney if they are wanted by others. When an attorney tries to apply for jobs on their own, they miss out on having someone like a recruiter making them appear like the hot item of the week.

A good recruiter knows how to talk up their attorneys while still remaining legal. They can find skills or experiences that set the attorney apart and would make them a good candidate for a position at a law firm if the law firm is willing to open their eyes and look. Many of the top law firms are stubborn and won’t consider an attorney unless they all of a sudden feel that the attorney is being sought after by other top law firms. They feel like they are missing out on something special and immediately jump into the game.

See Successful Actors and Attorneys Are Very Alike.

When a law firm gets the impression that an attorney is not desirable, they will no longer have any interest in them. An attorney that brings in their own business or has experience in a desired practice area will always look desirable to a law firm because that attorney will be adding to the firm instead of requiring assistance from the firm to be successful.

When attorney is able to look they were in demand before and still are now, they will have much better options at getting the law firm job they are seeking.
