Summary: Robert Deyapp was served cold onion rings at a Burger King restaurant. When he asked for them to be warmed up, the manager attacked him with a stun gun and a switchblade.

A New Mexico Burger King has a lot of explaining to do, the Huffington Post reports. In June of 2013, Robert Deyapp paid a visit to the Bloomberg, New Mexico Burger King and decided to order some onion rings. Once his order was ready, Deyapp realized that his onion rings were cold.

Deyapp did what many customers would have done—he asked an employee for his onion rings to be reheated. Francisco Berrera, the manager, overheard the request and apparently thought he’d be slick by speaking to the employee in Spanish, telling the employee he could do whatever he wanted to the onion rings because the customer would never know. However, Deyapp understood the exchange, and then refused to take the food and asked for a refund.

However, Berrera was so offended that he dove at Deyapp with a both a stun gun and a switchblade. He had the stun gun in one hand, and the switchblade in the other.

Court documents demonstrate that Berrera pleaded no contest to his charge of aggravated assault. Neither party provided comments on the pending litigation. Burger King, however, is accused of negligent hiring due to claims at other Burger King restaurants involving the same owners. The claims range from employees putting dish sanitizer on French fries at the Bloomfield restaurant to serving police officers “pot burgers” at a restaurant in Los Lunes. Berrera had also been violent with customers and coworkers before the onion ring incident.
