S.J. Quinney College of Law Receives $4.5 Million Gift to Make Their New Building Green

S.J. Quinney College of Law is constructing a new building, as rendered in this photo, and Alternative Visions Fund wants them to do it right. That’s why they’ve given $4.5 million to Quinney so they can make a completely green building. The goal, it seems, is for the College to gain the first certification as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design platinum – an achievement no other law school has gained. That’s why Alternative Visions includes $500,000 in matching funds to tempt other contributors to help make the law school as green as possible.

The law school will have efficient irrigation, storm water retention, mass transportation access, energy-efficient temperature system, including “chilled beam” heating and air conditioning, LED lighting, and a bunch of other green innovations, as Deseret News reported.

“We are grateful for the continued support of the Alternative Visions Fund, whose partner funds have a lengthy history of support for the College of Law’s Stegner Center,” said the interim Dean Bob Adler.

The projected building will at least be beautiful – which is another consideration. After all, a swamp is about as green as you can get, and making a college is about more than winning a green ribbon. The projected building is also expected to be easy on the eyes.
