A former assistant to actor Vin Diesel, Asta Jonasson, has filed a lawsuit against Diesel, accusing him of sexually assaulting her in 2010 and subsequently terminating her employment just hours later. The legal action was initiated in a Los Angeles court.

Allegations of Assault During “Fast Five” Production

Jonasson’s lawsuit alleges that the incident occurred in an Atlanta hotel room while working on the movie “Fast Five.” According to her claims, Diesel forcibly groped her breasts and kissed her after a night of entertaining multiple women in his hotel suite.

“Vin Diesel ignored Ms. Jonasson’s clear statements of non-consent to his sexual assaults,” the lawsuit states.

Disturbing Details Emerge

The lawsuit goes on to detail that Diesel allegedly compelled Jonasson to grab his erect penis, despite her protests. Subsequently, he pinned her against a wall and masturbated, releasing her only after he was finished. After this harrowing experience, Diesel reportedly left the hotel room.

Termination of Employment and Years of Silence

A few hours following the alleged assault, Jonasson claims she was fired from her position as Diesel’s assistant. The lawsuit contends that Jonasson remained silent for years due to fear of repercussions, fear of speaking out against one of the world’s highest-grossing actors, and concern about potential industry ostracization.

Calls for Accountability and Lasting Change

Claire-Lise Kutlay, Jonasson’s lawyer, emphasized the importance of holding influential individuals accountable for their actions in the workplace. “Sexual harassment in the workplace will never stop if powerful men are protected from accountability,” Kutlay stated in a written release. She hoped Jonasson’s decision to come forward would create lasting change and empower other survivors.

Diesel’s Response

As of now, legal and public relations representatives for Vin Diesel have not responded to requests for comment on the allegations.

#MeToo Movement Context

This lawsuit adds Jonasson to the list of women who have accused prominent figures in the entertainment industry of sexual misconduct since the inception of the #MeToo movement in 2017. The movement gained momentum in the aftermath of allegations against now-imprisoned movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

Country singer Andy Stone, known for his work with the band Vince Vance & the Valiants, has resurfaced with a renewed U.S. copyright lawsuit alleging that Mariah Carey infringed upon his song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” with her holiday hit bearing the same name. In this revised and expanded article, we delve into the details and implications of this legal battle.

Allegations of Copyright Infringement

In the recently filed lawsuit in California federal court, Stone, along with his co-writer Troy Powers, claim that Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” closely mirrors the “compositional structure of an extended comparison between a loved one and trappings of seasonal luxury,” as well as various other lyrical and musical components found in their song.

Knowledge is power, and knowing your earning potential is no exception. Check out LawCrossing’s salary surveys to gain valuable insights.

The Quest for Compensation

Stone and Powers are seeking a substantial $20 million in damages as they contend that Carey’s track has unduly borrowed elements from their creation. The lawsuit targets not only Mariah Carey but also her record label, Sony Music, and Universal Music Group (UMG), which holds the publishing rights to the song.

A Legal Saga Unfolds

This lawsuit represents a second attempt by Andy Stone to seek legal recourse against Mariah Carey. The first lawsuit, filed in a Louisiana federal court, was withdrawn just a year ago. The reasons for this withdrawal remain undisclosed. However, Stone has now chosen to reassert his claims.

Silence and No Comment

As the legal battle unfolds, Andy Stone and Troy Powers’ attorney, Cirstan Fitch, has refrained from commenting to the media. Furthermore, Sony Music and UMG have not yet responded publicly to the accusations levied against them and Mariah Carey.

Whether you’re a recent law school grad or an experienced attorney, BCG Attorney Search has the job for you.

Musical Origins

According to Stone, his band, Vince Vance & the Valiants, initially released “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in 1989. The song enjoyed popularity as a country hit throughout the 1990s. In contrast, Mariah Carey’s version of the song debuted on her 1994 album “Merry Christmas” and has since become a beloved holiday classic, consistently claiming the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the holiday season, starting in 2019.

The Alleged Resemblance

Stone and Powers’ lawsuit contends that Mariah Carey’s rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” duplicates significant elements from their composition, including the melody, lyrics, and the overall “feel” of the song. It is worth noting that Carey and her affiliated labels did not provide any response to Stone’s previous lawsuit before its withdrawal.

Case Details

This ongoing legal dispute is filed under the case name “Stone v. Carey” in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, identified by case number 2:23-cv-09216.

Legal Representation

Andy Stone and Troy Powers, Gerard Fox, and Cirstan Fitch from Gerard Fox Law represent their interests. Conversely, attorney information for Mariah Carey and the associated labels remains undisclosed at this time.

The ongoing lawsuit between Andy Stone and Mariah Carey raises questions about the boundaries of copyright infringement in the music industry. It also serves as a reminder of the enduring popularity of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” a beloved holiday anthem that continues to spark joy and controversy.

Legal Troubles Loom Large

Los Angeles Chargers cornerback J.C. Jackson finds himself in a difficult situation as the NFL season unfolds. Recent developments have dimmed the spotlight on his performance, with legal matters taking center stage.

Warrant Issued for Arrest

Surprisingly, a warrant has been issued for Jackson’s arrest, originating from Attleboro District Court probation. This legal entanglement dates back to a 2021 incident in which Jackson faced charges of criminal speeding. Initially, he was tasked with paying a $300 fine and attending a reckless driver’s class as part of his probation terms. However, Jackson failed to

adhere to these stipulations, culminating in his conspicuous absence from court last Friday. This non-compliance has triggered the issuance of an arrest warrant.

On-Field Struggles Compound Off-Field Issues

These legal woes have emerged when Jackson’s on-field performance is also faltering. He recently was sidelined as a healthy scratch before the Chargers’ Week 3 showdown against the Minnesota Vikings, underscoring his struggles.

Performance Regression

On the gridiron, Jackson’s struggles are glaring. In just two games this season, he has allowed 118 receiving yards and one touchdown, marking a stark regression from his previous form. Last year, he surrendered 334 receiving yards and four touchdowns in five games before his season was cut short due to a knee injury.

High Expectations, High Stakes

It’s important to highlight that the Chargers invested substantially in Jackson during the 2022 free agency period, securing his services with a lucrative five-year, $82.5 million contract. However, his recent performance slump and off-field issues have cast doubt on his ability to meet the lofty expectations placed on him.

In Conclusion

In summary, J.C. Jackson’s season has been marred by legal troubles and a noticeable decline in his on-field performance. This combination of factors has left the Chargers and their fans understandably concerned about the prospects of their star cornerback.

Pop icon Britney Spears has reportedly bolstered her legal team by enlisting the services of renowned divorce lawyer Laura Wasser in a move that has captured media attention. This development comes amidst Spears’ separation from Iranian-born actor Sam Asghari, with sources indicating that the situation could potentially escalate into a contentious courtroom battle.

Insiders familiar with the matter have disclosed that Spears, 41, has taken on the high-powered attorney in light of the escalating tensions in her split from Asghari, 29. Their prenuptial agreement, signed prior to their marriage, seems to be at the center of the dispute. Reports suggest that Asghari is allegedly seeking to renegotiate the terms of the prenup, going as far as issuing threats of public revelation of sensitive information about Spears if his demands aren’t met.

Sources close to the matter have hinted at the potential acrimony surrounding the case, speculating that the legal proceedings could turn hostile. Asghari’s alleged pursuit of modifications to the prenup has raised eyebrows, with some observers questioning the motivations behind these actions.

Representatives for Asghari have yet to respond to media requests seeking clarification on the allegations. In the midst of this unfolding legal drama, Spears’ decision to retain Wasser, 55, is drawing attention, echoing her previous choice to involve the attorney during her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their children in 2008.

Back then, Spears was in a heated dispute with Federline, 45, over custody arrangements for their two sons. Wasser’s involvement resulted in a court order for Spears to pay Federline a monthly child support sum of $20,000. The attorney’s role in securing this decision was met with approval from Spears, who expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating that she was focused on her children’s well-being.

Wasser, a prominent figure in family law, has since represented a slew of high-profile clients, including Kim Kardashian, Johnny Depp, and more recently, Kevin Costner and Joe Manganiello. Beyond her celebrity clientele, Wasser has also advocated for the importance of prenuptial agreements for all couples, regardless of their financial status. She believes that addressing crucial matters such as child custody, financial arrangements, and elder care plans before marriage can mitigate potential conflicts.

Interestingly, the legal agreement between Spears and Asghari was reportedly facilitated by Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor who played a pivotal role in ending Spears’ 13-year conservatorship in November 2021. Rosengart, who continues to be involved in Spears’ legal matters, ensured that the prenup terms remained unaffected by Jamie Spears, Britney’s father and former conservator.

Spears and Asghari’s separation arrives over a year after their highly-publicized wedding in June 2022, held at Spears’ California residence. Reports circulating in the media have suggested that rumors of infidelity on Spears’ part have fueled the strain in their relationship. Speculation persists that Asghari has initiated the process of filing for divorce.

As of now, efforts to obtain comments from representatives for Spears and Wasser regarding the ongoing situation have gone unanswered. The unfolding legal saga promises to be closely monitored by the media and fans alike, as the fate of Spears and Asghari’s relationship navigates the complex terrain of legal proceedings and public scrutiny.

Three former dancers who had worked with Grammy-winning singer Lizzo have come forward with serious allegations, claiming that they were subjected to a hostile work environment that included weight shaming, sexually denigrating behavior, and various forms of harassment. The dancers filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, shedding light on their experiences and naming Lizzo, whose legal name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc, and the captain of her dance team, Shirlene Quigley, as defendants.

The lawsuit, released on a Tuesday, detailed a range of disturbing incidents that the dancers endured while working with Lizzo. The complainants, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, alleged that they faced harassment based on factors such as sex, religion, race, and disability. These allegations painted a disturbing picture of an environment that starkly contrasted the inclusive and empowering image that Lizzo projects publicly.

One of the most concerning incidents described in the lawsuit occurred during a trip to an Amsterdam strip club in late February. The dancers claimed that they were coerced into engaging in inappropriate and uncomfortable interactions with nude performers, an incident that left them deeply traumatized. The lawsuit also highlighted the case of Arianna Davis, who asserted that she was pressured into participating in a nude photoshoot against her wishes in order to remain in a dance competition. She revealed that she felt compelled to comply due to the fear of losing her job if she resisted Lizzo’s demands.

The attorney representing the plaintiffs, Ron Zambrano expressed shock at the stark contrast between Lizzo’s public image and her alleged behavior behind the scenes. He stated, “The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing.”

Shirlene Quigley, the captain of Lizzo’s dance team, was implicated in the lawsuit for her role in the alleged misconduct. The dancers claimed that Quigley imposed her religious beliefs on them without their consent, creating a hostile environment. Quigley reportedly expressed her religious beliefs and attempted to impose them on others despite their objections. The lawsuit revealed that she even raised the topic of Arianna Davis’ virginity in conversations, interviews, and on social media without obtaining Davis’ consent, violating her privacy.

The consequences of the alleged hostile work environment were severe. Arianna Davis and Crystal Williams were eventually terminated from their positions, while Noelle Rodriguez chose to resign due to the distressing behavior described in the lawsuit. These actions impacted the dancers’ livelihoods and contributed to a toxic and distressing atmosphere that left lasting emotional scars.

Taylor Swift emerged victorious in a high-stakes legal battle after an author, Teresa La Dart, accused the pop star and her production company, Taylor Swift Productions Inc., of copyright infringement. The dispute centered around La Dart’s 2010 book titled “Lover,” which she claimed was infringed upon by the book accompanying Swift’s chart-topping album “Lover” released in 2019. La Dart filed a federal lawsuit in the US District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, alleging that Swift’s book not only copied the title but also replicated several creative elements from her own work.

However, the contentious legal proceedings took an unexpected turn when La Dart voluntarily dismissed her federal lawsuit. The dismissal occurred on a Wednesday, and the case was referred to mediation by Judge John T. Fowlkes Jr. in May. The exact details of the mediation were not disclosed in La Dart’s notice of voluntary dismissal, leaving room for speculation about potential behind-the-scenes negotiations.

Prior to the mediation process, Swift and her production company had already taken action to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that it failed to sufficiently state a valid claim of copyright infringement. The legal team representing Swift was confident in their defense and sought to have the case thrown out. On the other hand, La Dart sought damages amounting to more than $1 million, claiming that Swift and her team had profited substantially from the alleged infringement of her book’s copyright.

This wasn’t the first time Swift found herself entangled in copyright disputes. In the past, the Grammy-winning artist faced similar challenges, including two lawsuits in the previous year relating to the lyrics of her popular song “Shake It Off.” Both cases were resolved in Swift’s favor, further bolstering her track record in successfully defending against copyright allegations.

The first lawsuit, brought by R&B artist Jesse Graham, was dismissed in February 2022, and the second, filed by songwriters Nathan Butler and Sean Hall, was dropped in December of the same year. These legal victories showcased Swift’s resilience and the effectiveness of her legal representation in safeguarding her creative works.

Throughout the recent legal proceedings with Teresa La Dart, Swift was represented by Venable LLP, a prominent law firm known for handling complex intellectual property cases. On the opposing side, La Dart was represented by William S. Parks of Cordova, Tenn.

The dismissal of the lawsuit brings a conclusion to this particular copyright dispute, leaving Taylor Swift once again successfully defending her creative output against infringement allegations. With her legal team’s adept handling of the case, Swift can now continue focusing on her flourishing music career and leave this legal challenge behind her.

Actor Kevin Spacey was found not guilty by a London court on Wednesday, after facing multiple sexual assault charges brought against him by four men. The high-profile trial, which lasted for four weeks at Southwark Crown Court, saw intense deliberation by the jury, ultimately leading to Spacey’s acquittal on all nine charges dating back to 2004 and 2013, during his time at London’s renowned Old Vic theatre.

Upon hearing the verdict, emotions ran high in the courtroom. Spacey, who celebrated his 64th birthday on the same day, broke down in tears and mouthed “thank you” to the nine men and three women jurors before wiping away his emotions with a tissue. The actor’s defense team and supporters also felt a sense of relief as he was released from the dock and, in a touching moment, shook hands with his lawyers before quietly exiting the courtroom through a side door.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors portrayed Spacey as a “sexual bully,” alleging that he had aggressively groped three of the men and engaged in non-consensual oral sex with the fourth, who had reportedly passed out in Spacey’s London apartment. The charges against the Oscar-winning actor were severe, and the legal battle captivated audiences worldwide.

Taking the stand in his defense, Spacey, who was tried under his full name, Kevin Spacey Fowler, vehemently denied the allegations and argued that the case against him was weak. He asserted that any encounters that might have occurred were consensual, stating that he was promiscuous and a “big flirt” who engaged in casual and indiscriminate sexual relationships.

Expand your horizons and submit your resume to BCG Attorney Search today.

While Spacey acknowledged that he may have made a clumsy pass at one of the accusers, he maintained his innocence, adamantly denying any sexual assaults. He even suspected that the accusers had ulterior motives, suggesting they had come forward with allegations to gain financial advantages. Spacey informed the court that three of the four complainants had previously filed civil lawsuits against him, with one of them allegedly seeking a substantial payment of over £450,000 ($577,400).

Additionally, Spacey disclosed that he had enlisted the services of private investigators to look into the backgrounds of at least three of the men, attempting to shed light on their motivations for accusing him. These revelations added further complexity to the case, creating a highly charged and contentious courtroom atmosphere.

As the trial concluded, the jury faced the challenging task of weighing the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense. The decision to acquit Spacey was met with a mix of reactions from the public, with some expressing relief at the verdict while others criticized the outcome, emphasizing the significance of addressing sexual assault allegations and holding individuals accountable for their actions.

The impact of this high-profile trial extended beyond the courtroom, reverberating through the entertainment industry and sparking discussions about power dynamics, consent, and the importance of providing a safe environment for all individuals. Regardless of the verdict, the case highlighted the need for continued conversations about sexual misconduct and the complexities of navigating such allegations.

As Kevin Spacey walks away from the courtroom, having been found not guilty, the aftermath of this trial will undoubtedly continue to shape public discourse for years to come. The journey to justice is complex, and it remains vital to strive for a society that acknowledges and addresses issues of sexual assault, ensuring that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their status or position.

U.S. District Judge Vanessa Bryant has dismissed rapper 50 Cent’s $32 million lawsuit against his former law firm, Reed Smith, and its former partner, Peter Raymond. The lawsuit, which alleged legal malpractice, had been filed by the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson after a trial resulted in a $7 million judgment against him.

Jackson contended that Reed Smith had pursued an “uninformed” legal strategy leading up to the trial and raised concerns about a conflict of interest due to another lawyer representing both Jackson and rapper Rick Ross, a potential witness in the case. However, Judge Bryant ruled that Jackson failed to provide sufficient evidence to establish how the alleged conflict of interest impacted the trial or his lawyers’ strategy.

The legal dispute arose when a woman sued Jackson for posting her sex tape online in a feud with Ross. Reed Smith initially represented Jackson but was dropped as his counsel in March 2015. Shortly after, Jackson lost the trial and was ordered to pay $7 million in damages.

During the subsequent bankruptcy proceedings, Reed Smith filed a claim seeking over $609,000 in unpaid attorney fees from Jackson. In response, Jackson filed legal malpractice claims against the firm, seeking $7 million in actual damages and $25 million in punitive damages. However, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ann Nevins dismissed Jackson’s claims in separate decisions in March 2019 and June 2021.

Don’t settle for less – sign up for LawCrossing and find your dream legal job.

The recent ruling by Judge Bryant upholds the dismissal of Jackson’s claims, affirming that the bankruptcy court was correct in throwing out the $32 million lawsuit. The judge emphasized that Jackson had not adequately demonstrated how the alleged conflict of interest affected the trial or resulted in his loss.

Currently, neither Jackson’s lawyers nor Reed Smith and its former partner, Peter Raymond, have issued immediate comments regarding the ruling. Raymond, who is currently a partner at Wachtel Missry, has not responded to inquiries either.

It is worth noting that following the 2015 trial verdict, Jackson filed for bankruptcy in Connecticut just three days later. The bankruptcy proceedings provided a platform for Reed Smith to file a claim for the allegedly unpaid attorney fees.

Rapper 50 Cent’s $32 million lawsuit against his former law firm, Reed Smith, and its former partner has been dismissed by a federal judge. The ruling affirms the bankruptcy court’s decision and highlights the necessity of providing sufficient evidence to establish claims of legal malpractice and conflicts of interest. The legal battle and subsequent bankruptcy proceedings have been closely watched, shedding light on the complexities and challenges faced by high-profile individuals in the legal realm.

In Bucharest court’s recent ruling, internet personality Andrew Tate is set to continue his house arrest in Romania for an additional 30 days from the end of June. This decision comes in light of the pending trial on charges of human trafficking, among others. Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects were indicted earlier this week for alleged human trafficking, rape, and involvement in a criminal gang that exploited women sexually.

The charges stem from accusations that the suspects lured seven women through false claims of relationships. The prosecution alleges that the victims were subjected to abuse and exploitation. However, the defendants have vehemently denied these accusations.

Before the house arrest extension, the four suspects had been in police custody from December 29th until March 31st. Subsequently, a Bucharest court granted them house arrest. On Tuesday, prosecutors sought to extend this measure, citing the ongoing investigation.

Under Romanian law, the court must approve preventative restrictive measures such as house arrest every 30 days. Following a hearing on Wednesday, the court announced that its ruling would be delivered on Friday.

Andrew Tate addressed reporters in response to the developments, expressing his determination to remain in Romania regardless of the outcome. He stated, “We’re not the first affluent wealthy men who have been unfairly attacked. I love this country, I’m going to stay here regardless, no matter what, and I look forward to being found innocent at the end of everything.”

It is important to note that the trial will not commence immediately. According to Romanian legal procedures, the case will be forwarded to the Bucharest court’s preliminary chamber. Here, a judge has up to 60 days to examine the case files and ensure their legal validity.

The charges of human trafficking carry a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years, a penalty also applicable to rape under Romanian law. Furthermore, prosecutors have disclosed that they are investigating the four suspects in a separate ongoing case involving allegations of money laundering, witness tampering, as well as child and adult trafficking.

As the legal proceedings continue, public interest remains high. The case has brought attention to issues of exploitation, online influence, and the role of social media personalities.

U.S.-British social media influencer Andrew Tate, known for promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle to his millions of followers, has been charged with human trafficking, rape, and forming a gang to exploit women. Alongside him, his brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects have also been indicted in the case. The charges stem from allegations that the suspects lured seven women by falsely claiming relationships.

The Tate brothers, both former kickboxers, are the most high-profile individuals to face trial for human trafficking in Romania. Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist, has amassed a large following by projecting an extravagant, hyper-masculine persona, flaunting fast cars, and dating beautiful women.

Initially held in police custody from December 29 until March 31, the suspects were later placed under house arrest by a Bucharest court. On Tuesday, prosecutors sought an extension of their house arrest while the investigation continues. A judge is set to decide on Wednesday whether to prolong the detention or implement a less severe measure.

The charges against Andrew Tate, 36, include the rape of one of the victims, while Tristan, 34, faces accusations of instigating violence against others. Both brothers deny the allegations, and their legal team has expressed confidence in their eventual acquittal, embracing the trial as an opportunity to prove their innocence and restore their reputation.

The trial is not expected to commence immediately. According to Romanian law, the case will be sent to the preliminary chamber of the Bucharest court, where a judge has up to 60 days to review the case files for legal compliance.

Under Romanian law, trafficking of adults and rape carry maximum prison sentences of 10 years each. The four suspects are also being investigated in a separate ongoing case involving allegations of money laundering, witness tampering, child trafficking, and adult trafficking.

The indictment also seeks the confiscation of various assets, including property, luxury watches, cash, and cryptocurrency that prosecutors seized during the investigation.

Andrew Tate took to Twitter sarcastically dismissing any connection between the case and his wealth being stolen. Despite the legal troubles, he gained significant online attention, ranking as the world’s eighth-most Googled person in 2022, trailing behind notable figures such as Johnny Depp, Will Smith, and Vladimir Putin.

Notably, in the past, Tate has made controversial statements comparing women to dogs and suggesting they bear some responsibility for their own rape. He claimed to have moved to Romania after facing sexual assault charges in the United Kingdom, which were ultimately dropped.

Romanian prosecutors said the Tate brothers targeted their victims by seducing them and falsely promising relationships or marriage. Subsequently, the victims were taken to properties outside Bucharest, where they were subjected to physical violence and psychological intimidation. The suspects allegedly exploited them by forcing them to produce pornographic content for social media platforms, generating substantial financial gains.

This case will serve as a significant test for Romania’s anti-organized crime prosecuting unit, DIICOT. The unit has investigated 458 new trafficking cases and convicted 138 sex and labor traffickers in the past year, as reported by the U.S. State Department’s annual trafficking report. However, the report also highlighted a slowdown in prosecution efforts and persistent complicity among low-ranking officials in trafficking crimes.
