Summary: An expensive wedding was canceled after the groom’s family attacked the bride’s brother at the rehearsal dinner.
Sometimes your possible in-laws can act like outlaws, so maybe it’s best to cut and run before you tie the knot. But weddings can be awfully expensive, and one jilted groom decided that his former fiance should be the one to pay for their lavish party.
Last October, Bradley Moss and his girlfriend Amy Bzura were set to marry in New York at The Pierre hotel. Before the big day, the couples’ families met up at Blue Water Grill in Union Square, but instead of a toast, there was a punch.
The New York Post reported that the groom’s parents were livid that the bride’s brother, Adam Bzura, wanted to give a heartfelt toast. The groom’s father, Robert Moss, 65, allegedly told Adam he wasn’t allowed to speak at dinner and then threatened him with the classic movie villain quote, “Do you know what I can do to you?”
According to a lawsuit filed by Amy’s father Bruce, things escalated after Robert tried to kick Adam out of the rehearsal dinner. The groom’s mother, Wendy Moss, started to argue with Adam right before the groom’s brother, Michael Moss, gave him a slam in the mouth!
But the violence didn’t stop there. According to Bruce, Robert lunged at Adam like he was auditioning for a position on the New England Patriots. The night ended with tears and Wendy calling friends to tell them that the $325,000 wedding was called off.
After the incident, the groom filed a lawsuit against Amy, asking for her to return the $125,000 engagement ring he had given her.
Amy’s father filed his own lawsuit against the Moss family, asking for reimbursement for the ceremony. Bruce Bzura said that he had agreed to foot most of the $1,100 a head party but that Robert Moss was supposed to cover 89 of the groom’s guests.
“He promised to pay his share, and now he won’t pay a penny,” Bruce Bzura said.
Both cases are pending, and while the legal fight is definitely ugly, we can only imagine it would’ve been uglier had they divorced.
