Susan Bergles , the former in-house counsel for Northwest Natural Gas Company has joined as a partner and merged her natural gas regulatory practice with Wilkinson Barker Knauer’s growing energy practice. She will continue to provide regulatory and transactional advice to pipeline companies, storage companies, and energy marketing companies.
Bergles, who advises clients on natural gas regulatory and contract matters, has been in the field for over two decades. Starting out in her career as an associate in the law firm of Ater Wynne LLP 
in Portland, she later joined Texaco Inc. in Houston. She also has the experience of serving as Chair of the American Gas Association’s FERC Regulatory Committee.
Speaking on Bergles joining the law firm, Bryan Tramont, managing partner of Wilkinson Barker said, “Susan’s broad-ranging natural gas practice and FERC expertise will complement our firm’s growing energy practice. Attracting someone of Susan’s stature is an important step in building our D.C. profile in this space.”
Ray Gifford, Denver partner of the firm and former Chair of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, added, “We are thrilled to add her FERC and CFTC expertise to Wilkinson Barker’s team.”
Bergles will be primarily working out of the Washington D.C. office of the firm, but will also work closely with attorneys in the Denver office.
Bergles’ practice focuses on regulation of the natural gas industry, primarily before the FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), and the CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission) with respect to natural gas pipeline rate and tariff matters, natural gas contracting, natural gas storage regulatory and contracting matters, and regulatory compliance.
She earned her law degree (with distinction) from the University of Iowa College of Law, and holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Iowa.
