Octomom was charged on Monday with welfare fraud after she failed to report close to $30,000 in earnings, according to a report from CBS Los Angeles. The announcement was made by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Octomom’s real name is Natalie Denise Suleman.
The formal charges were filed against her on January 6 for one count of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for aid. The complaint says that she filed for public assistance in Lancaster back in January of 2013. She is the mother of 14 children.
“While applying for public aid, the mother of 14 children allegedly failed to disclose that she was also getting checks for personal appearances and residuals from videos. She allegedly failed to report the extra income she earned between Jan. 1, 2013, and June 30, 2013,” the Office of the District Attorney said.
Octomom has used online dating auctions, porn, donations and nude photography in an effort to make money. She has dealt with financial problems in the past, including bankruptcy. Arraignment is scheduled for Friday in a courtroom in downtown Los Angeles. It has been reported that prosecutors will be asking for bail of at least $25,000.
Octomom is facing at least five years in prison is she is convicted on the charges.
