For the first time in 50 years, “Citizen Kane” is not on the top of the list of best films of all-time. Sight & Sound released its international film critics’ poll, which comes out once every decade, that determines what the best movie is all-time. The movie that occupies the top spot is “Vertigo” from Alfred Hitchcock. The movie will remain in the top spot for the next ten years, until a new poll is released. The magazine is published by the British Film Institute and it polls 846 film experts and critics from around the world.
The last time the poll took place, “Vertigo” was only five votes behind “Citizen Kane” for the top spot. That poll took place in 2002. “Vertigo” won the top spot in the poll by 34 votes this time around, which is good for a 39 vote turnaround. “Citizen Kane” was directed by Orson Welles, who also wrote and starred in the movie.
