Ogletree Deakins is pleased to announce that Charlie Gonzalez, a seven-term congressman and former judge, has joined the firm in its San Antonio office.
The firm added shareholders in four offices earlier this year.
Kim Ebert, the managing shareholder of the firm, said, “Charlie is a very well-respected public figure who served the greater San Antonio community for decades, and we are excited to welcome him to Ogletree Deakins. Charlie’s extensive resume, which includes years of legal and governmental affairs experience, significantly enhances the capability of our San Antonio office and expands our ability to represent the region’s employer community on issues of national and local significance.”
Last fall, the firm opened a Mexico City office.
Gonzalez is a skilled litigator, a strong advocate, and an ardent mediator. Gonzalez has vast knowledge of the labor and employment law issues that impact the business community in southern Texas. Gonzalez will also use his judicial experience to help clients with formulating trial and settlement strategies in major litigation matters. He will also serve as a strategic advisor on both legislative and regulatory policy, as well as strategies and their impacts on employers.
Gonzalez commented, “I am passionate about the legal profession and fortunate to join such an outstanding firm in Ogletree Deakins. My role will allow me to provide representation to clients utilizing my experience as a lawyer, judge, mediator and elected official.”
In April of 2013, the firm opened its 44th office.
Gonzalez previously served as a senior advisor with VIA Metropolitan Transit. He represented Texas’ 20th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999 to 2013. While in Congress, he served on the Committees for House Administration, Homeland Security, Small Business, Judiciary, Energy and Commerce, and Financial Services. According to Wikipedia, he also served as the Chairman of Latinos for Obama and was the National Co-Chair of President Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. Previously, he worked as an attorney in private practice, and served as an elected district judge and county court at law judge.
According to the San Antonio Business Journal, the firm employs 700 attorneys in 47 offices around the globe.
