June Goals

First off, I wanted to say thank you for everyone’s encouragement at my new internship! I know it sounds like I’m complaining a lot about the hours, but I guess it will just take some getting used to! Other than that, I’m really enjoying it so far! Everyone who works there is so helpful and I’ve already gotten great advice. I know I will learn a lot since many of the lawyers have had years and years of experience, and in tons of different areas of environmental law!

So now, on to my post:

IT’S JUNE!!!! Is that crazy or what?! I can’t believe it! Only 10 more days until my big brother’s first wedding anniversary! See the picture of me on the sidebar in the green dress? That’s from his wedding!

Today is also a very important milestone as well:

Today is LaTarian Milton’s birthday. Who is LaTarian? My friend’s cat. He is fantastic. He has three legs and she rescued him two years ago. He has white mittens on his paws and he thinks he is a dog. I’m not a cat person, but I like him.

Now that we’ve all ooo’ed and awww’ed over LT, it’s time to look at my goals from May, and see my new goals for June! If you are new to the blog, every month I come up with some new goals, just things to think about and try to do for the month. I also re-cap the last month’s goals and see how I did!

May Goal Re-Cap:

1. Go to the Kansas City Zoo! FAIL. I did not end up going to the Kansas City zoo while I was home. However, I did go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs! So that kind of counts, right?

2. Keep up my running mileage. Kinda sorta. I kept up running, but I didn’t keep my running mileage to where it should be for marathon training… The plans all say 15-20 miles per week, and I’ve been doing more like 10-14. However, I think that’s best for me. I needed a break from running, and now I’m so excited to start training and this week I’ve just been craving a good run! Also, I’ve  been keeping my runs longer (4-6 miles) so I feel good about where I am to start MARATHON TRAINING!!!! (Again, if you are new to the blog, I’m signed up to run the Chicago Marathon!).

3. Buy new running shoes! SCORE. When I got home to Kansas City I went with my mom and got some new running shoes! Thanks mom! They are Asics GT2160s and I really love these shoes so far, they have great support, it feels so comfortable!

4. Work on having “me time.” This was pretty easy for me since school got out! At first I wasn’t too great about it, but I got into the groove. I spent a lot of “me time” reading, running without headphones, or going on long walks. I also am happy to have my commute back (I know, SHOCKING) because that’s a solid 40-60 minutes of just me time! Oh and the other 40 people crammed on the bus…

Now that we’ve seen how I did with last month’s goals, it’s time to set some new goals for June!

June Goals:

1. Bring lunch 4 days a week to work. It’s been 4 days and I’ve only brought lunch once… Granted, I have zero groceries and not much to work with for bringing lunch, but I cannot afford this! Okay, one day my supervisor bought me lunch, but two other days of $8 salads?! I need to work on my meal planning!

2. GO TO SPINNING. This has been on my goals list for WAY too long! I really need to try out a spinning class! There’s even one at my gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays that’s just barely early enough for me to go to and still make it to work! I’ve got to make this happen!

3. Be better about calling people. Brace yourselves friends and family. Starting today I am going to try and be a better phone person! There are so many people I’ve been playing phone tag with over the past month or so (I’m talking to you, Amy Lee!) and I need to get better about calling people! One of my best friends from college got engaged this month and I HAVEN’T CALLED HER! How sad is that?!

4. Don’t let strength training fall to the wayside. My marathon training begins next week, AHHHH!!!! I’m SO EXCITED! I’ve been anticipating this for so long that I just want to get started!!! With that being said, I want to make sure I keep up with strength training. I love it, it makes me feel strong and good about myself, AND it’s so helpful for running and to keep me from getting injured!

What are some things you’re looking forward to doing in June?

Are you a cat person, or a dog person?

I think you all know my answer:

Kathryn Wheeler: My name is Katie and I moved to Chicago in 2010 for law school and graduated in May 2013. I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
