Sparkle Sparkle.

Check. It. Out.

I paint my nails, ummm…., about 5 times a year. Max. When my mom said she needed to go get a “buff” (she doesn’t wear nail polish) and asked if I wanted to get a manicure, I was a bit skeptical but thought, “Hey, I’m on vacation! Why not?” I’m heading to North Carolina for New Years to visit my sorority sister from college (I’m actually leaving TOMORROW!) so I thought something festive would be perfect!

I am obsessed and cannot stop staring at my nails.

Go big or go home.

Earlier that day I also saw some old friends, from High School! Okay, not just high school. I probably met them before I could walk, and went to school with them from when we were 2 until we graduated. I love having friends like that know my life history so well! It’s great to reminisce and to catch up on what they are currently doing!

One friend I talked about on a very early blog post, Helen, who is currently working at Lara Little’s, a local candy and chocolate store, and applying to grad schools for illustration! She’s an amazing artist!

My other friend is also an artist! Caroline lives in San Francisco (with her dog, George) and is working at a jewelry store called Frolick Jewelry.

We had lunch at a local restaurant called BRGR. Can you guess what they serve? That’s right, burgers! Caroline is also gluten intolerant, so she wanted to go there since they have gluten free burger buns.

I ordered a normal burger, but got it with bison meat since it’s a lot leaner than normal meat. I also got a side salad to get in some veggies!

No pictures, I completely forgot… Sometimes I forget I write a blog! haha oh well. The burger itself was good, but I wasn’t a fan of the bun. I thought it was really dry and didn’t eat much of it. Caroline really liked it though, although personally I think it’s just because she hasn’t had a real bun in so long, she doesn’t know what she’s missing… Haha.

Caroline and Helen ordered some truffle fries to share, and I have to say they were pretty good! Even better since they came out late and weren’t included on the bill! Free fries always taste better… Overall, I was impressed with BRGR and suggest checking it out if you’re in the area. They had a lot of creative options and several “alternative” burgers and other menu options.

I had a great day catching up with friends, spending some time with my mom, and running a bunch of errands to try and get things together before I head out of town tomorrow! I’ll be going to North Carolina for a few days, and then down to South Carolina for about a day and a half! After that I’ll be heading straight out to Colorado with my mom without even stopping at home! It’s going to be a crazy week but I can’t wait for it!

Do you have friends you’ve known most of your life?

What’s your favorite (or craziest!) nail color?

Kathryn Wheeler: My name is Katie and I moved to Chicago in 2010 for law school and graduated in May 2013. I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
