SC Rules a Youth’s Age Is Relevant in Miranda Analysis

Recently, U.S. Supreme Court favored a decision, to determine a youth’s age, based on Miranda analysis. In fact, this was discussed in a case involving a teenaged student, who was picked out from school for police questioning, do not come under its purview, as ruled by North Carolina Supreme Court. On contrary, other Justices have rejected it stating that age alone cannot be sole determinant in suspect questioning, leading towards its abuse. However, U.S. Supreme Court has overturned state’s decision in J.D.B. v. State of North Carolina favoring it, to protect children from vulnerability and immaturity, to determine custodial questioning.
