Not every attorney is an obviously profitable attorney for a law firm so a recruiter’s job is to make a way for law firms to see the potential profit in any attorney they represent. There are ten factors that recruiters search for in an attorney that makes them profitable.

  1. Fit a common mold

Recruiters start off with the easy-to-place associates but will try to move on to partners that come with a large book of business because they are so easy to place. Most attorneys looking for work do not fit into this mold so they assume they aren’t marketable.

  1. Other legal recruiters are seeking them

When multiple legal recruiters are contacting the same person, they are clearly marketable.

  1. Attorney is in an in-demand area

Some practice areas are more in demand than others so recruiters are more willing to work with those attorneys.

  1. Attorney is in a niche practice area

There are some practice areas that will always be easy to fill because there are so few attorneys that excel in it.

  1. Resume shows significant improvement

When an attorney can provide a resume that shows consistent improvement, they will be highly marketable.

  1. Willing to relocate

An attorney that is willing to move to wherever the job is will be highly marketable for a recruiter.

  1. The recruiter is prepared to market an attorney

When a recruiter has enough resources to market an attorney, they will be able to work with more attorneys.

  1. The recruiter has exceptional market knowledge

If a legal recruiter has the proper knowledge to market their attorneys to the best fit, then they will be better able to make their attorneys marketable regardless of their qualifications.

  1. There is time to market the attorney

Recruiters need time to find good fits for their attorneys and pitch them properly to the law firm.

  1. The law firms are looking for quick hires

Law firms that are looking to fill positions quickly will be willing to look at attorneys of a variety of backgrounds and take a risk compared to a law firm with one position that wants to take over a year to find the right fit for.
