WME Agent Who Groped Terry Crews Says Touching Was Horseplay, Not Sexual

The powerful Hollywood agent who allegedly grabbed Terry Crews’ genitals in public denied sexually assaulting the actor. According to TMZ, the WME agent Adam Venit said that Crews wouldn’t win his civil lawsuit against him because he suffered no injuries.

In October, Crews revealed that he had been groped by a powerful man in Hollywood in 2016. His allegation came after the expose of producer Harvey Weinstein, who the New York Times reported had sexually harassed or assaulted women for almost thirty years.

Crews said that he had been at a party when Venit had approached him, made a vulgar tongue gesture, and then grabbed his genitals. Crews said that he didn’t know Venit and that Venit had groped him while in the presence of Crews’ wife.

In 2017, Crews filed a lawsuit against Venit, and he fired his agency, WME, which put Venit on suspension but ultimately let him return. Earlier this week, the agency defended its actions, stating that Crews had initially accepted an apology and told two employees everything was okay.

“Mr. Crews accepted the apology and then told the only two WME employees to whom he had spoken about the incident that everything was okay,” WME said, according to Deadline. “It was the last mention Mr. Crews made of the incident to anyone at WME for nearly 18 months — during which time he remained a WME client.”

After Crews sent out his tweet last October, he filed a police report with the Los Angeles Police Department and filed a civil lawsuit. On Twitter, he shared an email from now-disgraced music mogul Russell Simmons who urged him to stop fighting Venit and WME.

“I also believe @unclerush was asked to pressure me into dropping my case by @WME execs. Somehow they thought he was the “King of Black people,” Crews tweeted. “Someone hacked into the computer my son and I built together. I have to shut it down and replace the hard drive.”

Crews revealed that Venit grabbing him made him feel “emasculated.” In Venit’s legal response, he said that he was just messing around and the alleged grab was not sexual. Sources told TMZ that Venit had too much to drink and was engaging in “horseplay.”

Crews is a former football player-turned-successful actor. He is currently starring on Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and he has appeared in several movies.

Venit was the former head of motion pictures at WME, and he represents high-profile stars such as Brett Ratner and Dustin Hoffman. Recently, his clients, Ratner and Hoffman, were also accused of sexual harassment. Ratner is good friends with Russell Simmons, who was accused of rape by three women.
