Baker & McKenzie Holding Layoffs in China

Chicago’s Baker & McKenzie, which in April laid off 124 employees, announced today it is laying off 11% of its lawyers and staff in China.

The firm has released no further details. It has 350 lawyers and staff across offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

    It seems that 11% of 350 is not such a big deal. With the terrible state of the economy, im surprised it wouldnt be a larger percentage.

    wow this is crazy another showing of how this economy is really hurting businesses – its time for companies to let go of their oversees sections and just deal with their core business – companies really need to take this time to refocus and reinforce their core projects – the days of flippant ventures are over, i feel sorry for the laid off people

    The recession is rough and all but I dont necessarily feel so bad about the elite lawyers losing their jobs as opposed to the middle class

    Baker & McKenzie are not well organized and too political on the inside. They evangelize ‘one firm’, but are truly disparate in their client delivery and service across their practices and regions.
