Fletcher Cox

Summary: A North Carolina man is suing NFL athlete Fletcher Cox for having an affair with his wife and breaking up their marriage.

A Huntersville, North Carolina man is suing NFL player Fletcher Cox for breaking up his marriage. Joshua Jeffords, a Marine Corps veteran, claims that his marital problems were caused by Cox. He filed the lawsuit against the Philadelphia Eagle defensive tackle under North Carolina’s law allowing people to sue for “alienation of affection” in civil court.

The lawsuit filed in Mecklenburg County claims that Cox had an affair with Jeffords’ wife. Jeffords and his wife have since separated. The lawsuit details how the relationship began when Jeffords’ wife went on a business trip to Pennsylvania in April 2017. During the trip, Cox had sexual intercourse with his wife and then continued to send her text messages and social media messages when she returned to North Carolina.

Jeffords claims the messages from Cox said he really liked her and wanted to get her pregnant. He alleges that Cox even sent her a Snapchat photo of his penis. The lawsuit states, “Jeffords’ wife sent messages to Cox calling him ‘boo’ and saying he was ‘loving everything you have to say’ and ‘I really like you…We’d make some damn beautiful babies’ and ‘I want to get to know you babe. I know we are compatible sexually…’”

Jeffords alleges that the affair ruined his marriage and caused him emotional distress. He had to seek mental health treatment for the shame, mental anguish, humiliation and disgrace from the affair. He is seeking $50,000 in damages, according to CBS Sports.

In an interview with WBTV, Jeffords said, “It’s been a nonstop rollercoaster ride of bad emotions. I basically have to restart my whole life over this and I no longer have the person I thought I was going to be with the rest of my life.”

He says he filed the lawsuit in hopes that no one else will have to go through what he has. “If there’s any way that my case might be able to help others or stop others in the future from this happening to them,” Jeffords said.

His attorney, Christopher Adkins, explained that they are not targeting Cox because he is famous. He said they would have pursued legal action regardless of the plaintiff’s occupation. Adkins said, “We would be doing this if it was anybody. I understand that he is a high-profile individual, but at the end of the day Mr. Cox’s actions have driven that wedge in between the marriage of Mr. Jeffords and Mrs. Jeffords and have completely destroyed and ruined that relationship.”

They are going to consider legal action against his wife once the legal action against Cox is settled.
