Newly Acquired Chicago Office of Honigman Welcomes New Partner

Summary: The Private Equity Group at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn adds a new partner, this making nine new partners to the firm this year.

The largest law firm in Michigan, Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, announced a new partner today. Alex Plakas will be joining the firm’s Private Equity Practice Group. He is joining from Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Plakas will be working from the Chicago office that was recently acquired. The firm has set a plan to grow their services to better serve their clients by becoming more nationally located. His is the ninth partner to join Honigman this year from Am Law 100 firms.

His work at Kirkland & Ellis focused on leading middle-market private equity transactions in industries such as marketing, distribution, healthcare, technology, food and beverage, manufacturing, and consulting and professional services.

At Honigman, Plakas will focus on complex transactions that include leveraged buyouts for private equity funds as well as domestic and cross-border M&A. He will represent private and family owned companies, public corporations, and private equity funds and their portfolios.

The private equity group is already filled with highly qualified attorneys that work throughout the country with private equity funds, emphasizing middle-market transactions. The firm was ranked this year among the top 10 for the number of deals they made in the first quarter.

He earned his B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in Finance and his J.D. from the same school.
