Cooley Announces New Office in London

Summary: Cooley, LLP has announced that it has opened an office in London with more than 55 attorneys and legal staff.

It was announced today via a press release that Cooley, LLP has created a UK practice in London. The new office will house 20 partners and more than 55 attorneys and other legal professionals.

Joe Conroy, the Chief Executive Officer of Cooley, said the following in the release:

“Cooley plans to make a big impact in London. We have brought together partners who are the very best in their fields, and who share our values and approach to achieving success for our global client base. From our San Francisco and Silicon Valley roots, we have grown to 850 lawyers, solving complex business and litigation issues for the world’s most dynamic companies.”

The new office will be led by Justin Stock, who is the former head of the London corporate practice at Morrison & Foerster.

“It is fantastic to be able to launch in the UK with such a great team already in place,” Stock said. “We have substantive strengths in areas essential to Cooley’s global client base. I am energized by the sheer talent, personality and determination of all who are involved in this exciting opportunity. We are ready to build a thriving and successful UK-based practice together. We intend to take the momentum of this launch and continue to attract top legal talent with the same drive and spirit.”

The London office will also welcome some of the top technology, corporate and IP partners in the city. They include David Bresnick, Chris Coulter, Ed Lukins, and Nicholas Bolter, Laurence Harris and Kevin Perry. Another group of lawyers joining the firm will be led by David Kendall.

Ryan Naftulin, who is the vice-chair of Cooley’s business department and a partner-in-charge of the Washington, D.C. office, will relocate to the London office. He will serve as a U.S. liaison partner.

“London has an entrepreneurial spirit that we understand well and a burgeoning tech sector to which we can contribute,” said Naftulin, who has been with the firm for 16 years in D.C. and Silicon Valley.

Laurence Harris leads the team joining the firm from Edwards Wildman. Harris said, “Most of us have practiced together for years. We have all been struck by the quality and genuineness of Cooley’s leadership and wider partnership, as well as our new London-based colleagues. We look forward to being part of building something special here in London.”
