Paul Simon and Edie Brickell Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

According to a police officer and an attorney, Paul Simon and wife Edie Brickell were arrested for disorderly conduct in Connecticut this past weekend. A report from NBC New York said that officers responded to the couple’s home due to an argument that ended in a ‘push.’

Their home is located in New Canaan and police went there on Saturday when someone hung up after a call to 911. The police “found probable cause” to take both Simon and Brickell into custody. The two were released from jail on a promise they would make a court appearance on Monday.

The two made their court appearance on Monday at Norwalk Superior Court. They were holding hands and smiling the entire time. They did not speak to reporters.

The judge recommended a limited protective order, but the attorney for the couple said it was not necessary and unwanted.

“Both of us are fine together,” Simon told the judge. “We’re going to go back home today, we’re going to go watch our son play baseball.”

“We had an argument, and it’s atypical of us, and neither one of us has any fear or any reason to feel threatened, and I don’t feel like I need to be protected.”

Brickell then said that Simon is “no threat to me at all.”

The judge, based on the couple’s comments, said he did not see a continued threat of violence. He declined to issue the order.

It is still unclear as to who committed the ‘push’ during the argument. Officers were obligated to make an arrest after discovering probable cause due to the state’s domestic violence statutes.
