Reese Witherspoon Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

Hollywood magazine, Variety, reported on Sunday that Reese Witherspoon the Oscar-winning actress was arrested early on Friday for disorderly conduct and quarrelling with officers who had taken her husband into custody for DUI.

According to Variety, James Toth, Witherspoon’s husband was stopped on Peachtree Street on suspicions of DUI. Toth appeared unkempt and he smelled heavily of alcohol. Subsequently, he failed a blood-alcohol breath test.

While Toth was taken into custody, Witherspoon started protesting. Even though she was asked by the police to stay inside the car, she got out and began quarrelling.

According to Variety, after getting out of the car, she said that she was a U.S. citizen and had a right to stand on American soil.

Variety cited the account of the police officer who arrested Witherspoon for disorderly conduct as mentioning: “Mrs. Witherspoon asked, ‘Do you know my name?’ I answered, ‘No, I don’t need to know your name.’ I then added, ‘right now.’”

According to the police report Witherspoon told the police officer, “You’re about to find out who I am.”

The police released the couple from custody at about 3.30 a.m. on Friday. Witherspoon and Toth had married in 2011 and have a child. Witherspoon also has two children from her first marriage with actor Ray Phillippe.

She won her Oscar for her role in the 2005 film “Walk the Line” in which she played the role of June Carter Cash, the wife of country music star Johnny Cash.
