Facebook fact finding in Florida

Online social networking doesn’t quite make the cut as one of the four f’s of human behaviour, but it’s close. For new lawyers, however, it pays to keep a lid on the seemingly instinctual drive to network. It’s no surprise that big law will peruse your Facebook pages looking for anything that might damage their reputation, but now the Florida Bar Examiners are getting into the act as well. New applicants to the Florida Bar that fall under certain categories can expect to have their Facebook pages checked for evidence that can be used to deny an application.

This new policy will not affect everyone; only applicants that need rehabilitation or who have admitted to certain past indiscretions will be investigated in this manner.
