“They [Casey’s children] killed my husband,” Jean said.

Casey Kasem died in 2014, leaving his widow Jean and his adult children from a previous marriage to fight over his estate. In June, Jean Kasem sued her stepchildren and their attorney, claiming wrongful death, negligence, and fraud, according to People Magazine.

Jean’s lawsuit was a response to her stepchildren Kerri, Mike, and Julie Kasem suing her for wrongful death. In November 2015, they filed a suit stating that the widow abused their father and caused emotional distress by not allowing his children to see him in his final days.

Jean responded by suing Kerri, Mike, and Julie Kasem; Julie’s husband, Jamil Anis Aboulhosn; and their attorney Troy Martin. She also named the facility where Casey Kasem died as a defendant.

In her interview with Inside Edition, Jean said that her stepchildren had tried to take assets from Casey’s Bel-Air mansion but that she had tried to stop them. She said on Inside Edition, “I have the grant deed to the house. That shows I am the sole owner.”

Casey’s belongings will be held in a trust until Jean and her stepchildren’s legal battle is over. Jean and her daughter Liberty, 27, are living in Casey’s mansion despite having no power or water. Kerri Casem said that Liberty and Jean have not been taking care of the residence and have not paid taxes.

Kerri said that she and her siblings did not kill their father. Instead, they took him to a hospital to try to save his life.

The beloved radio host was living with Parkinson’s disease before Kerri had protested outside of his mansion, alleging that Jean was keeping her father away from her. Months later, Dr. Paul Leitner wrote a letter to the Elder Abuse Investigations department at the Office of Criminal Investigations in Santa Monica, California. Leitner said that Jean had entered the hospital where Casey was being treated and had removed his feeding tube without permission.

“She was informed of the risks of doing so and was told she was placing Mr. Kasem in great bodily harm or possible demise,” Dr. Leitner wrote in his letter.

After Leitner’s letter, Kerri was granted conservatorship over Casey Kasem and took him to another hospital before his death. Jean said that it was this action that killed him.
