George Clooney Blasts Voici for Twins’ Photos

Summary: Actor George Clooney is not happy about the photos posted of his newborn twins by a French magazine.

Celebrities never enjoy having their children’s photos snapped and then pasted on the covers of magazines. This especially true for actor George Clooney who has already spoken out about his hatred for intrusive, paparazzi-like photographers. It is safe to say France’s ‘Voici’ magazine is about the feel the effects of a parent’s wrath. The French magazine plastered their latest issue’s cover with photos of the actor’s newborn twins, claiming to an exclusive scoop to the first photos of them. The award-winning actor had choice words for the paparazzi who invaded their privacy.

Clooney stated, “Over the last week photographers from Voici magazine scaled our fence, climbed our tree and illegally took pictures of our infants inside our home. Make no mistake the photographers, the agency and the magazine will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The safety of our children demands it.”

The photos are blurry but appear to show Amal and George Clooney each carrying one of their new babies at their Lake Como, Italy estate. They have released and authorized the release of any photos of their new babies since their birth.

In an interview with Piers Morgan in 2011, Clooney discussed the topic of celebrities selling photos of their children. Clooney stated, “I couldn’t really argue for or against that issue. I could argue the idea of when Brad [Pitt] and [Angelina Jolie] know that a picture of their kid – their new kid – is worth, five million bucks, why not make sure it goes to a charity and take the picture and also take away the bounty hunting that comes with it because, remember this…when someone says, ‘Well, a picture of Brad and Angie’s new baby is worth $5 million,’ people are willing to do pretty much anything and break pretty much any law for five million bucks.”

Clooney and his wife Amal’s welcomed their twins at the beginning of June. Ella and Alexander were born on June 6. A statement explains that Amal and the babies “are all healthy, happy and doing fine.” The statement also joked saying, Clooney is “sedated and should recover in a few days.”

Clooney and Amal, an international human rights lawyer, were married nearly three years ago in Venice. Just before their wedding, Clooney obtained protection orders against the Paparazzi for the wedding festivities. The order prohibited anyone from entering his property or the water in front of it until September 30, 2014. There is a good chance that Clooney will be fighting for new protection orders.

Voici released a statement, “George and Amal Clooney have been very public personalities for the last few years. Their wedding in Venice, in September 2014, was a very mediatic event; the pictures of them smiling to the public were seen around the world. The birth of their twins, Ella and Alexander, had also been commented a lot, by themselves and their families. The images published in Voici this Friday are a response to a public demand. People love George Clooney and have been following his life story for years now. Those pictures do not put in danger Mr. Clooney, his wife or their kids.”

Other celebrities have stepped up to fight back against the paparazzi in order to protect their children. In 2013, Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner testified before the California State Assembly Committee on Public Safety about the importance of having a law in place to protect children from paparazzi cameras. The bill they supported was later signed into law, making California the first state to set in place restrictions for the paparazzi regarding celebrity children.
