8 Tricks to Make Your Unwashed Hair Look Amazing

Summary: Don’t want to get up early to wash your hair some mornings? Learn how to make it look great even without washing it.

Be honest. Most mornings all you want to do is hit the snooze button rather than get up early just to shower and blow dry your hair for the fourth time that week. Well don’t you fret, because here are eight tips for those mornings where you want a few extra z’s.

  1. Play up your natural waves. When your hair is dirty, letting it go natural can sometimes be the best thing to do. If your hair has a natural curl, play it up with some curling spray and let it do its wild thing.
  2. Try dry shampoo. Dry shampoo has been all the rage over the past couple of years, and for good reason. Gone are the days when we’d sprinkle baby powder into our hair, hoping no one thought we were going grey. If your hair is looking greasy, put it in at your roots and on your bangs and then brush it out.
  3. Pump up the volume. When your hair is dirty, the buildup tends to make your hair a little more naturally voluminous. Play up this opportunity with a little dry shampoo on your roots and a curling iron on your ends for a more va va voom look.
  4. Slick back your ponytail. Use your natural oils to your advantage by slicking back your hair into a ponytail. If you have a lot of flyaways, just use a little hairspray and a headband.
  5. Use an accessory. If it’s the weekend, hats are your friend. But if you’re heading into work, try a headband or appropriate scarf and pull your hair half or all the way back.
  6. Try out that braid from Pinterest. Braids are making a major comeback, so use this as an opportunity to try out that look that you’ve been saving for a rainy day. Plus dirty hair makes for a sleeker braid since the oils help keep all the strands together.
  7. Opt for a messy bun or twist. Thank goodness the top knot is in style because it’s often a saving grace for those of us who hit the snooze button a few too many times.
  8. Get retro with a half up bouffant. Bou-what? You know, the bump it look. Tease the hair at the top of your head a bit and pull it half back. Not only will your dirty hair keep it in place better, but you’ll also look like you put a lot of effort into this retro style.
