Summary: Taking a deep look into the presidential candidate’s Foundation’s IRS records show the billionaire is not a giving man to those truly in need.
Everyone from big time business CEO’s to children with piggy banks rushed to donate money after 9/11 to one charitable organization or another. Donald Trump did not. According to Internal Revenue Service records, the billionaire New Yorker didn’t see any need in supporting the rescue workers, survivors, or families of firemen and police that died helping others from 2001 terror attack on the World Trade Center.
The Foundation Center reported that $1.1 billion was donated by nearly 1300 foundation, institutions, and corporations for recovery and relief efforts.
The Donald J. Trump Charitable Foundation made no such effort to offer financial help to those suffering and in need of aid. Trump is worth ten billion dollars, and he has no problem reminding people of his wealth, but he does have a problem sharing that wealth in times of severe need, especially in his own city.

There is one donation on the foundation’s tax return since 2001 that has a tiny connection to 9/11. Trump gave $1000 to a Scientology program which delivered treatment to firemen that inhaled toxins from the World Trade Center pile. The program co-founded by Tom Cruise was called the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Fund.
Trump claims to have a bigger heart than what people think, stating on Bloomberg TV “I think I have a bigger heart than all of them.” Trump claimed during a New York Times Magazine interview that he was the type of person that could lead and comfort those after a tragedy or disaster.
He also declined to share his wealth with those affected by Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast and in New Orleans in 2005. This is despite the fact that Trump had announced just days before the Hurricane hit his plans to build a skyscraper in New Orleans, the Trump International Hotel & Tower. Trump made his billions in the real estate business but he couldn’t offer his services to help rebuild the city. Instead, he abandoned the project, with the vacant lot being sold during a sheriff’s foreclosure auction five years ago.

There is actually very little that Trump donates his money to. He also refrained from any charitable donations after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. He has given $125,000 to Fisher House and $5,000 each to two other groups that support veteran services.
The Smoking Gun did the math to show that Trump’s foundation has donated .000104 percent of his net worth. For example, the average American would only have to donate $4.69 each year if they are making $44,900 to follow his rate of giving. That is not very much for anyone with most giving that much just in their donations to thrift stores.
