Ex-Staffer Says Donald Trump Mingled Money, Upset He Endorsed Ted Cruz

Summary: Donald Trump has begun a bitter legal battle with his ex-staffer Sam Nunberg.

Donald Trump fired Sam Nunberg from working on his campaign, and now the GOP presidential candidate is hitting the man with a $10 million lawsuit.

Last summer, Nunberg was fired after it was discovered he had posted racist messages on Facebook. According to the lawsuit, Nunberg retaliated by leaking a story to the New York Post about then-campaign manager Corey Lewandowski screaming in public with spokeswoman Hope Hicks. In the lawsuit, Trump says Nunberg violated a confidentiality agreement.

Nunberg denies the allegation, and it is noted that he had not been involved with the campaign for ten months when the story’s argument took place. However, Nunberg has taken further steps to defend himself. He responded to the lawsuit by making his own damning allegations against Trump and his campaign.

Nunberg said that Trump may have illegally mingled his corporate and campaign funds and he created a fictitious company to sue him. He added this is Trump’s payback for his endorsement of competitor Senator Ted Cruz.

Trump’s lawsuit was filed in May but made public on Wednesday. A source close to the campaign said that it was a mistake to file because it would upstage Trump’s search for a running mate. The source said Trump disregarded advice not to file at all. After all, the source said that “Trump never backs down.”

The anonymous source told The Huffington Post that Lewandowski “egged” Trump to file the lawsuit in order to keep his tumultuous relationship with Hicks private. Once it was filed, Trump had no intention of dropping the suit, even after Lewandowski was fired. The source said that Nunberg is just as much a fighter as Trump, and that this suit will get “ugly.”

A Trump spokeswoman did not respond to comment.
