Trump Is No War Hero Either

Summary: Trump belittled Senator John McCain about his military activities during Vietnam, but has no standing since he never served in the military.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has never spent a day in his life serving in the military but he seems to think he is an expert on the matter. He claims to have avoided being drafted for the Vietnam War simply by luck.

However, the truth is that Trump was granted four student deferments and then resulted to obtaining a medical deferment after he had graduated from college at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. The closest Trump has come to serving in the military was attending the New York Military Academy during his high school years.

Trump’s draft number, 356, was drawn on December 1, 1969, but by then he had already used the student and medical deferments. The medical deferment placed him in the category of being called up “only in time of national emergency.” He claims his medical disqualification was for a bone spur in one of his feet, yet he cannot remember which one. Trump was the son of a multimillionaire real estate mogul.
