Everyone Wants to Hack Hillary Clinton

Summary: Hillary Clinton’s numerous email accounts have become the latest target by hackers.

Hackers have gained access to a number of internal memos and other communications relating to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign through her email accounts. Investigators believe the hackers are backed by a Russian government operation, solely targeting her Gmail accounts and those of her staffers.

They contend that the hacking scheme targeted “individuals managing Clinton’s communications, travel, campaign finance, and advising her on policy.” They believe the attacks have been happening since the middle of March through a spoof Gmail log-in page designed to deceive users. At least one Clinton volunteer fell for the trick. Their Gmail account was breached around that time and they were able to gain access to campaign emails, memos and other documents.

The other documents provide a glimpse of the inner workings of Clinton’s presidential campaign including her schedule, talking points, logistics, and book briefing. Her Gmail account lacked any information such as confidential deliberation and policy discussions.

One of the juicier email communications obtained was in regards to the Las Vegas rallies of Hillary, her husband former President Bill Clinton, and her daughter Chelsea. The rallies had strict policies for the general media to follow, especially concerning a specific CNN producer covering the Clinton campaign. The emails show how advanced staffers placed a target on Dan Merica, following his every move at the rallies. The advanced staffers job was to follow Merica and prevent him from getting close enough to the Clinton’s to ask them questions. Clinton’s staff did the same thing in their visit to Chicago. Emails show that they were keeping an eye on Lynn Sweet, the Washington D.C. bureau chief for the Chicago Sun-Times.

Guccifer 2.0 is claiming responsibility for the hacks. Officials believe he is a Romanian “hacktivist” and is a single person. He denies that he is part of the Russian operation “Total fail!!!”

Do you think the hackers obtained any interesting information that will be used later in the campaign? Tell us in the comments below.
