Akerman LLP Welcomes Susan F. Klein to Chicago Office

Summary: The law firm of Akerman LLP has announced that Susan F. Klein has joined the firm in Chicago from Polsinelli.

The law firm of Akerman LLP has announced that it has added tax lawyer Susan F. Klein to its office in Chicago, according to a press release from the firm.

Klein comes to the firm from Polsinelli and will work as a partner in the Tax Practice Group. She becomes the 26th attorney to join the firm in Chicago since the office opened its doors with just eight attorneys less than one year ago.

“Susan is a leading authority on some of the most complex international and U.S. tax issues,” said Peter Larsen, chair of Akerman’s Tax Practice Group. “She adds another dimension to our growing Tax Practice Group and strengthens our ability to assist clients with multinational tax planning, compliance and structuring issues. Susan will provide immediate and valuable counsel to our clients as they consider investment opportunities around the globe.”

Klein’s focus includes international transactions for individuals and companies, dispositions of businesses, mergers and acquisitions, financial services taxation, entity formations, venture capital, complex real estate transactions and tax controversies.

She has represented clients from the U.S. who have issues with investments and business operations in Western Europe, Canada, Israel and regions in Latin America and Asia.

She also has clients that are corporations and foreign nationals connected to investments in the United States, acquisitions, licensing operations, estate planning and joint ventures.

Klein formerly chaired the American Bar Association’s Taxation Committee, International Section and is the former vice chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Tax Committee, International Section.

Klein has also worked as the vice president-secretary of the International Fiscal Association’s Executive Committee in the U.S.A. Branch. She has also worked on the faculties of the Boston University School of Law and the Emory University School of Law.
