Summary: A man from San Diego who suffers from autism has graduated from Cal Western Law School this week.
Erik Weber suffered a high fever at the age of 2-and-a-half that left him autistic. Due to the illness he lost all of his language skills and was not expected to live by himself, according to NBC San Diego.
Despite all of this, Weber showed that perseverance and hard work pays off as he graduated from Cal Western Law School.
Weber said, “People call me the trailblazer – the icon – but really I’m an ordinary person doing extraordinary things.”
Weber had to be institutionalized at Scottish Right Center as a child. He had a good teacher that helped him learn language. He was able to leave the center after just two years.

Weber proved all of his doctors wrong as he became a star runner in the Special Olympics.
Sandy, Weber’s mother, had him help local political campaigns in an effort to improve his people skills.
Sandy said, “I wandered into the two council districts and the one who embraced us was (City Councilwoman) Marti Emerald.”
Sandy said that working for political campaigns taught her son how to understand body language, first impressions and how to read facial expressions.

Members of Emerald’s office attended Weber’s law school graduation. Also in attendance in support of Weber were members of the San Diego Police Department and coaches and athletes from the Special Olympics.

Weber has begun studying for the bar exam and would like to practice special education law.
