There are plenty of careers out there that do not require a legal degree or require people to work as attorneys. Many people attend law school and realize they want to work in the legal industry, but do not want to work as a lawyer. In this post, we have put together a list of the top non-attorney legal jobs that have become popular these days.

Electronic Discovery

The e-discovery industry has exploded since 2010 and continues to grow in profit, salary and the amount of e-discovery jobs available. These professionals are responsible for discovering, preserving and managing electronic information for cases.

Legal Nurse Consulting

Nurses can use their expertise and knowledge from their everyday job to earn roughly $200 per hour as a legal consultant. Lawyers will turn to legal nurses to consult on cases and other issues when medical expertise is needed.

Litigation Support Professionals

This is a job that combines the skills of a paralegal and an IT professional. Litigation support professionals are needed in law firms across the country to help with a litany of tasks, most of which are digital.

Paralegal

The paralegal profession is one of the fastest-growing in the country because attorneys are more and more overwhelmed with work. Salaries for this position continue to increase as paralegals take on more responsibilities at work, take on management roles and have greater autonomy.

Trial Consultants

These professionals are becoming more popular as lawyers need to explain technology to members of juries. Trial consultants help members of a jury understand complex topics using legal technology.

Mediators

As legal services continue to become more and more expensive, people and companies are beginning to turn to mediators to help resolve disputes. Mediators make a nice salary, but they are not as expensive to use as a lawyer.

Jury Consultant

A jury consultant will work alongside a lawyer for major trials. These professionals are well-versed in juries and know how to analyze juror behavior and thinking. They will also help the lawyer craft opening and closing statements and the arguments to be made during the trial.

Do you enjoy running an office? If so, working as a legal secretary might be an option for you in the legal field. Legal secretaries, also administrative assistants, will help with paperwork, caseload and much more.

Compliance Specialist

A compliance specialist will be employed by companies, firms and other entities simply to monitor their employer’s compliance with new laws and regulations set forth by the government.

Court Reporter

Do you love being in a courtroom, but do not want the stress of being a lawyer? Court reporting is an excellent career path to take. You get to be in the courtroom during trials, hearings, sentencings and arbitration hearings. You are required to record everything that is said in the courtroom in writing so it can be referred to at a later time.
