Jamila Lyiscott Rejects Being Told She is Being Articulate

If you enjoy watching entertaining videos online, especially those that have people putting others in their place, then this video is for you. There does not seem to be any foul language in this video, so it should be safe to watch around your kids and if you are at work.

The woman in the video is Jamila Lyiscott, who decides to reject a comment someone made to her that she is articulate. This is an excellent video because it discusses racism, especially issues that arise when people criticize how people speak the English language.

Take a look at the video, which is less than five minutes in length and leave your comments at the bottom of the page. Lyiscott’s closing remarks in this video tell the entire story. We have transcribed them and put them in this post for you to read for yourself.

“So unless you seen it rob a bank, stop calling my hair bad. I’m so sick of this nonsensical racial disparity, so don’t call it good unless your hair is known for donating to charity. As much, as has been raped away from our people, how can you expect me to treat their imprint on your language as anything less than equal? Let there be no confusion, let there be no hesitation, this is not a promotion of ignorance. This, is a linguistic celebration. That’s why, I put tri-lingual on my last job application. I can help to diversify your consumer market is all I wanted them to know. When they call me for the interview I’ll be more than happy to show I can say “Whats good?” “What a gwaan?” and of course “Hello,” because I’m articulate.”
