Manatt Adds Deven McGraw to Healthcare Practice

It was announced via a press release by the law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP that Deven McGraw has joined the firm as a partner in the Healthcare practice. McGraw joins the firm after spending time at the Center for Democracy & Technology, where she worked as the director of the Health Privacy Project.

William S. Bernstein, the chair of the Healthcare division at Manatt, said, “Deven is known for her high-caliber privacy work. The depth of her experience and service in today’s most pressing health policy issues makes her a well-connected asset for clients. In addition, her focus on patient protection and the secondary use of health data will increase the scope of our national team. We are proud to welcome Deven to the firm.”

McGraw was just one of three people to receive an appointment to the federal advisory Health Information Technology Policy Committee in 2009. She was appointed by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. She chaired the privacy and security policy working group for the committee for four years. She also co-chaired the work on health information exchange for the committee.

McGraw has also worked as the chief operating officer of the National Partnership for Women & Families. McGraw worked in private practice at Patton Boggs LLP and at Ropes & Gray.

“I was very impressed by Manatt’s multifaceted healthcare practice and its creative, integrated approach to client services,” McGraw said. “The firm is well-known for its high-level engagements and cutting-edge work in the healthcare sector, as well as across multiple platforms such as financial services and litigation. I look forward to growing my practice at Manatt and collaborating with my new colleagues to help clients navigate the increasingly complex privacy space.”

McGraw earned her B.S. and B.A. from the University of Maryland and her J.D. and L.L.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center. She holds a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
