The Third Annual South Texas Mock Trial Challenge was won by the University of Georgia School of Law, according to Online Athens. The school overcome roughly 30 teams to bring home the national title.
The students who took part in the competition include David B. Dove, Margaret E. Randels, Adam J. Fitzsimmons and Emily K. Westberry. They are all third-year students at the law school. The team prepared the second-best brief at the tournament.
The tournament was held from March 27-30 in Houston and the team from UGA went undefeated throughout to win. The team knocked off teams from Samford University, the University of Florida, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Seton Hall, Catholic University, the University of California Hastings College of Law and the South Texas College of Law.
The win over Samford came in the last round of the tournament.
Kellie Casey, the Georgia Law Director of Advocacy, said, “South Texas College of Law, led by Rob Galloway, invites the best teams in the country, has the most qualified panel of judges and includes a brief writing component. The level of competition was astounding, and I couldn’t be more proud of our students who displayed not only outstanding advocacy skills but also a professional camaraderie with their opposing teams. They were just spectacular!”
