Law Firm Given Until End of Week to Hand Over Documents in NJ Bridge Scandal

The law firm that conducted the internal investigation of the George Washington Bridge scandal in New Jersey has been given until the end of this week to submit interviews it conducted to the legislative panel holding its own investigation.

The co-chair of the committee, State Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), said that negotiations were still occurring between the attorney for the committee and the law firm, according to The Star-Ledger.

The attorney for the committee is Reid Schar and the law firm hired to conduct the internal investigation was Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. The firm was hired back in January by the Attorney General’s Office of the State to investigate the office of Governor Chris Christie.

If the 70 interviews that led to the issuance of the report are not handed over to the legislative committee, Wisniewski said that a subpoena would be issued.

“They have indicated a desire to work with our counsel in turning over the documents,” Wisniewski said. “But that indication has stopped short of saying, and yes here they are, they will be delivered tomorrow. So we’re at a point in time where they’ve indicated in interest in cooperation, but they have not actually said where, when, how or how much.”

Wisniewski said that the committee has yet to receive responses to the subpoenas issued to the office of the governor, the re-election campaign and the former chair of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, David Samson.
