According to Fox News, “Mistah Metro,” as he’s known in the tattoo world, posted the picture with the caption: “My dog is cooler than yours!” The image showed a heart tattoo with an arrow through it, and the names Alex and Mel, on a shaved portion of the dog’s front shoulder. He posted the photo of his his brown and white dog, still unconscious after spleen surgery, and he added in the caption that the “vet let me tattoo her while she was under.”
Chris Torres who gained notoriety after being featured on TLC’s NY Ink and the owner of the Red Legged Devil tattoo parlor where Mistah Metro started this controversy insisted that neither he nor his shop had anything to do with the dogs tattoo and according to Gothamist, that what Metro did was not a crime. “People are still offered jobs after being pedophiles,” Torres argued. “I don’t know why everyone is treating this kid like he raped a 12-year-old.”
“He said his dog was under anesthesia and he was going back to the vet to put a tattoo on him,” Chris Torres told the news site. “He took his machine and went out the door.” He has not seen him since.
The Brooklyn tattoo artist is sparking lots of criticism. It has been reported that Mistah Metro was relieved from his duties at the Flatbush Avenue studio. Chris Torres used Twitter to try to silence critics. “You guys are aware that the ASPCA tattoos dogs & cats once they’ve spayed or neutered them, right?” Torres tweeted, according to the NY Daily News.
A spokesman for the group told the New York Post, Although it is not illegal to tattoo a dog, the ASPCA condemns the practice for anything other than identification purposes. “‘Tattooing an animal for the vain sake of joy and entertainment of the owner without any regard for the well-being of the animal … is not something the ASPCA supports.”
