Man Sues McDonald’s for Napkin Refusal and Racist Remarks

A lawsuit has resulted from a customer at a Pacoima, California McDonald’s being given just one napkin when making a purchase, according to TMZ. The customer, Webster Lucas, asked for more napkins and was refused. He was also subjected to a racial slur from the manager of the restaurant.

Lucas has sued the franchise for $1.5 million due to his emotional distress. The incident occurred on January 29 when Lucas ordered a Quarter Pounder. In the bag, he was given just one napkin. Angel, who is the manager and Mexican-American, told Lucas that he was given a napkin and would not be provided with any more napkins.

When Lucas was told he could not have more napkins he said he should have went elsewhere with his business. He said, “I should have went to eat at the Jack-in-the-Box because I didn’t come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat.”

Lucas is African-American, and claims that after making his comments, Angel made a racist comment. It came along the lines of “you people.”

An email was sent to the general manager of the location, Leticia Barrera, about the issue. In the email, Lucas told Barrera about Angel’s “deep-seated attitude towards customers.” In the email, Lucas also mentioned that he has suffered “undue mental anguish and the intentional infliction of emotional distress,” which was caused by Angel’s treatment of him.

Lucas was offered free burgers by the McDonald’s franchise for what he went through. Lucas turned down the offer, and has decided to sue, as previously mentioned.
