Law Grad from Kansas University School of Law Donates $1 Million

Aspiring attorneys have received an incredible gift from a third generation University of Kansas Law School graduate. The gift will help students at the law school pay for their tuition.

Beau Gould is an attorney and commercial real estate investor from Seattle. Gould and his wife, Julie Gould, donated $1 million to the law school. The announcement was made on Tuesday, according to The Topeka-Capital Journal.

Gould earned his law degree from the school in 1989. His father, George R. Gould Jr.; and his grandfather, George R. Gould, both earned degrees from the school. They worked as attorneys in Dodge City.

The Chancellor of the school, Bernadette Gray-Little, said the following in a press release on the law school’s website: “As a third-generation KU Law graduate, Beau is part of a proud family tradition of Jayhawk lawyers. This generous gift builds on his family’s legacy and will benefit future generations of students who follow in his footsteps by attending the School of Law.”

The money will create the Gould Family Scholarships at the law school.

Gould said that while in law school he benefits from scholarships while also working four jobs to pay for his education.

“I felt that this was the right thing to do, so that someone else would be a beneficiary of a scholarship,” Gould said.

The dean of the law school, Stephen Mazza, said in the press release, “The Gould family’s commitment to the law school is incredible. Beau understands our push to increase scholarship funding and its importance to the school’s future. We are extremely grateful.”
