After Miley Cyrus’s “wrecking ball” video was released, where the naked starlet swung on a giant ball hooked to a chain, Grand Valley State University has removed its own giant Pendulum. The University has claimed that the removal of the ball pendulum was for “safety reasons.”
The giant pendulum on campus is a 42 inch steel ball on a 40-50 foot steel cable. According to Tim Thimmesch, the facilities head of GSVU, since Cyrus’s video release students have been going wild riding the ball much more than they have ever before. The University has not commented on whether or not the installation will be replaced. As of now an assessment of the “integrity of the installation” is ongoing. Students have protested the removal of the giant pendulum.

The “wrecking ball” video broke world records for VEVO viewership in 24 hours, with 19.3 million views. Over 100 million viewers watched the video up to 6 days after its release.
