A fight in a Houston-area high school, possibly gang related, led to one student pulling a knife and attacking his fellow students, leaving one student dead and three others wounded. Fellow students snapped pics with their cell phones of the bloody victims, and shared them amidst their peers.
Luis Alonzo Alfaro, 17, pulled a knife and attacked his fellow students during a fight. He has since been charged with murder and is staying at Harris County jail with a bail of $50,000.
Authorities were vague regarding the incident, with Sheriff Adrian Garcia saying, “We believe a confrontation of some sort occurred that ultimately led into a physical confrontation that produced weapons. There has been some information that this may have been gang-related.”
The school cancelled classes for the rest of the week. Parents of students have been justifiably mollified by the incident.
“Every parent sends their child to school believing school should be one of those safe haven places,” said Spring Independent School District Superintendent Ralph Draper. “This is what we spend our nights and days working toward and what I lose sleep over. In my nearly 30-year career, this is the one thing you pray never to experience.”
With gang fights encroaching in the school district, which is supposed to be a safe place for students, parents are outraged. Said one parent, Tara Campbell, who wants to have her daughter home-schooled, “Last year there was gang fights consistently. This is ridiculous. This is an ongoing situation.”
