What to do if your 72, you’ve been working as Union County Prosecutor for 11 years, and you were not appointed another term? Certainly not retire. The plucky Theodore Romankow, who retired as prosecutor in June, after Gov. Chris Christie appointed in his place Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park, a former assistant U.S. Attorney, nevertheless went on to work as a criminal defendant at the law firm Javerbaum Wurgaft.
“I retired from the office. I didn’t retire completely,” said Romankow. “I’m looking forward to the challenge.” And that may be the key to youth, to keep oneself challenged and interested.
The progression to persecutor comes with stipulations. He is barred from representing criminal cases in Union County for six months after his retirement, and from working on any cases that involved the county prosecutors while he was in office, as was reported by nj.com.
Other projects Romankow has taken up include improving school safety standards, and finding legal assistance for defendants with mental disabilities or illnesses. Certainly he is going into “retirement” the way the rest of us go into the prime of our careers.
