Craigslist Announces Law School For Sale

“ONE (1) currently ABA Accredited Law School for sale. Great location, convenient to everything! Easy access to Crosstown, I-26, King Street bars and restaurants. Off-street parking! Student body has been used.”

But though the ad warns that “serious inquiries only! All reasonable offers will be considered,” it isn’t serious, but a joking response to the actual sale of the school that Charleston School of Law (CSOL) has made of itself to InfiLaw.

The schools dean, Andy Abrams, confirmed that sale, as FITS News reported, mentioning the “agreement expressing the intent of the owners to sell the Charleston School of Law to InfiLaw,” but added that they were still “open to other serious proposals,” which was perhaps the line that inspired a prankster to place the ad.

Some critics characterize CSOL as a “diploma mill,” while others wonder if its sale to InfiLaw, which owns a few other law schools, will drop the standards of the school.

Regarding this latter possibility, the school has assured its intent on “maintaining the best of the Charleston School of Law, including our culture and vision, while at the same time bringing its strengths, including investment in the law school in terms of systems, programs and infrastructure, as well as demonstrated commitment to public service.”

Promises, promises.
