Three women dined at Chilly D’s Sports Lounge over the weekend in Stockton, California. The restaurant is part of the Cameo Club Casino. When the meal was over, the women were handed the check, and found that they were insulted on the check, according to a report from ABC affiliate News 10.
On the check, the words ‘fat girls’ were written. The three women who ate together were Christine Duran, Christina Huerta and Isabel Robles. Duran spoke with News 10 and said the following about the check:
“I got the bill, and I was like, why does the receipt say, ‘fat girls? [Huerta] was like, ‘You’re lying,’ And I was like, ‘No, I’m serious. Look at it.’ She was like, ‘fat girls?'”
The women confronted the server when he returned to the table but he claimed he knew nothing about the check. He also said that an employee with the name of ‘Jeff,’ whose name is on the check, probably typed ‘fat girls’ into the computer system in order to track the check.
Duran said that the restaurant’s manager went to the table to explain why ‘fat girls’ appeared on the check. But, Duran said that the manager “had like a smirk on his face, like it was funny but trying not to laugh.” The manager offered a 25 percent discount instead of compensating them for the meal. He then offered a 50 percent discount, but the women rejected that as well.
Chilly D’s published an apology on its Facebook page Saturday. It said the following:
“[…] I completely understand why they were hurt by what was written on their receipt and that type of treatment isn’t tolerated. Also there will be no tolerance in the future, guaranteed. Everyone is welcome in our establishment, my family built this business so that the community of Stockton would have a safe and fun place to hang out and come together. My hope is to heal our newly tarnished reputation so that everyone feels safe and welcome again. And if these ladies would like to meet with my family and I, so that we can personally apologize, we would really like to do that, because we do not want anyone to have an experience like this.”
ABC News said that the owner of Cameo Club Casino, Maggie Lewis, also apologized for the incident. She said that this incident is “intolerable in our establishment.”
The co-owner for Chilly D’s, Jimmy Siemers, was not working the night of the incident. He did acknowledge what happened and said that he is working to fix the problem.
“I just want to tell them we’re sincerely sorry and we’ll do everything in our power to make sure this never happens to anyone again,” he said.
