Sandusky Claims Innocence: Says Media, Lying Accusers, and Investigators Conspired Against Him

While lead prosecutor in the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case said on Monday that six of Sandusky’s 10 proven victims were ready to take the stand to support the harshest punishment for Sandusky, from behind the bars Sandusky continues to claim innocence. A three-minute statement aired by the Penn State’s student-run radio station coincides with the change in strategy of Sandusky’s defense team, which instead of pleading leniency are planning to appeal his conviction.

The tape, which Sandusky’s defense lawyers confirmed, but denied knowledge as to how the radio station obtained it, shows Sandusky in a defiant mood. He says, “They can take away my life. They can make me out as a monster. They can treat me as a monster, but they can’t take away my heart … In my heart, I know I did not do these alleged disgusting acts.”

Sandusky’s defense lawyer Joe Amendola said, “The bottom line is this … How can he be remorseful if he maintains his innocence?”

Sandusky conceded he often showered with boys after workouts, but he suggested one publicity-hungry accuser whose version of events influenced that of others started the stories of abuse. The taped statement mentions Sandusky saying, “A young man who is dramatic and a veteran accuser and always sought attention started everything ….”

According to his defense lawyers, Sandusky has denied the charges against him and continues to deny them, and regrets not testifying in his own defense.

Though the list of conspirators Sandusky mentioned was long, including ‘the system,’ surprisingly, he did not mention either Obama or Romney playing a part in the conspiracy. However, the system in general and the media in particular seems to have earned the ire of Sandusky who went on to complain that he was the victim of a “well-orchestrated effort of the media, investigators, the system, Penn State, psychologists, civil attorneys and other accusers.”

The trial court had found Sandusky guilty on 45 counts of child sexual abuse.
