Joseph Bachelder Joins McCarter & English

On Wednesday it was announced that Joseph Bachelder has joined the New York office of New Jersey law firm McCarter & English. Bachelder will work as special counsel for the firm in the New York office. By moving to McCarter & English, Bachelder’s employment and compensation boutique, which he founded in the 1980s, will now close. There were 10 lawyers working at the Bachelder Law Firm.

“We hope he stays for the next 25 years,” Daniel Pollack said. Pollack is the managing partner of McCarter & English’s office in New York. “If lawyers half Joe’s age had half his energy, they would be very fortunate indeed.”

Also from the Bachelder Law Firm, Jerome Cohen, will be joining McCarter & English as special counsel. He specializes in tax issues in compensation programs. Both started working at the law firm on October 1. Bachelder said he is not planning to retire and will work full-time, five days per week at his new firm. Should he decide to retire, his clients would stay on with McCarter & English.

In 2011, McCarter & English grossed $211 million. The firm is 160 years old and it ranks 132 in The American Lawyer rankings. In 2011, the per partner profits were listed at $590,000. McCarter & English employs close to 400 lawyers in its offices.
