Hair Ball, Weighing 4 Pounds, Removed from Girl’s Stomach

Last month, a 19-year-old girl visited the Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital in Indore with complaints of having trouble eating and drinking. She had not been able to eat or drink for a couple of days when she went to the hospital. When she was examined by doctors at the hospital they found a hair ball that weighed close to four pounds. The hair ball was lodged between her small intestine and her stomach.

The reason for the hair ball in her stomach was the fact that the girl liked to eat her own hair and even chalk while she sat in class. The combination of the hair mixed with the chalk wound up stuffing her insides, preventing the hair from exiting the body.

The doctor who worked on the removal surgery was Dr. Parvinder Singh Lubana. Lubana worked with a team of gastro-surgeons who helped take the hair ball out of the girl’s body. The four pound hair ball removed from the girl is quite small compared to one removed by doctors from a teen in Chicago in 2007. That hair ball clocked in at 10 pounds and was 15 inches by 7 inches by 7 inches.

The girl who had the four pound hair ball removed from her hails from Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh.
